Inter Law – Accident waiting to happen on beach

“Accident waiting to happen” on beach – 20/03/2017A Port Talbot councillor has warned of the potential of a dangerous collision between beach strollers and kitesurfers.

Councillor Andrew Tutton has warned of the possibility of serious injuries after three men were injured earlier this month when strong winds blew kitesurfers out of their designated areas, icWales.co.uk reports.

Mr Tutton said: “The kites have long cables – if someone walking their dog was caught by one of those things it could take their heads off.

“It s an accident waiting to happen.”

He added that young mothers with pushchairs often use the beach and said a solution must be found before a catastrophe occurs.

Nevertheless, Mr Tutton rejected an outright ban on kitesurfing which some beaches have introduced.

The West Mersea Beach website advises kitesurfers to join the British Kite Surfing Association, noting that some sportsmen have had to pay out substantial compensation claims following damage to property.
