Drug trial victim set to get ВЈ2m compensation – 15/04/2017

A 22-year old man is set to get a £2m compensation payout after taking part in a disastrous drug trial.

Ryan Wilson from Highbury, North London, nearly died after he took part in a trial for an experimental pharmaceutical drug. Wilson had to have all his toes amputated as well as the tips of several fingers after taking part in the trial.

Wilson along with five other men who took part in the trial all suffered major organ failure. Although Wilson suffered the worst of all those that took part, the other five were also seriously effected and are expected to get compensation the region of £700,000 each. One man who took part was dubbed the ‘the elephant man’ after his head swelled up considerably.

Auriana Griffiths, Mr Wilson’s lawyer, said: “We are hopeful the case will finally settle. The case for damages will be assessed independently by a QC next month. I just hope for everybody’s sake we can now wrap things up as quickly as possible.” She said she could not comment on the size of the claim.

Parexel has indicated, after two years of negotiation, a willingness to compensate the men and is believed to be offering in the region of £2 million to Mr Wilson.

The drug trial at Parexel’s clinic at Northwick Park Hospital was hoped to provide a
possible cure for arthritis, multiple sclerosis and leukaemia sufferers.
