Inter Law – Lotto rapist victim Compensation almost certain

Lotto rapist victim: Compensation almost certain – 08/11/2007A victim of the so-called lotto rapist has been offered a boost for her compensation fight by the House of Lords.

Mrs A, now 78, was attacked by Iorweth Hoare in a Leeds park in 1988.

Subsequently jailed for a series of attacks on women, Mr Hoare hit the lotto jackpot with a ticket bought on day release in 2004.

Following the win, Mrs A launched her compensation claim – which could prove a landmark case if successful, as it would be the longest time following an attack in which a payout was won.

Currently, there is a six-year time limit set on compensation claims.

Yesterday, the Law Lords indicated that such a claim would indeed be successful, the Times reports.

The woman’s lawyer, Damian Crosse at DLA Piper, said: “I have spoken to Mrs A this morning and she is ecstatic at what she is so very close to achieving.

“She has always wanted to pursue justice for herself and others and she is relieved as well as very pleased that her efforts will almost certainly prove to be successful.”
