Inter Law – Army blood blonder could infect civilians

Army blood blonder could infect civilians – 10/01/2017 A potential medical negligence personal injuries nightmare might be on the cards, due to a blood blunder from the army.

It has emerged that six civilians and 18 soldiers have been exposed to potentially contaminated blood, donated by members of the US military.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced that the American authorities did not conduct blood screening of the donors.

This leaves open the possibility that the blood in question could have been contaminated with deadly diseases such as HIV and hepatitis C.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s spokesman said: “Of course this is a very serious matter and the Ministry of Defence are taking it very seriously.”

An HPA spokesperson added: “The agency has advised the Ministry of Defence on the level of risk to those who may have been potentially exposed to infections as appropriate and is assisting with contacting some of the affected people.”

The GPs of all those affected in the blood blunder have been informed of the situation.
